Implement and verify
Maintain an operation-specific risk register, realistic planning, competent drivers, suitable vehicles and effective maintenance and defect controls.
Fit for duty and readiness
Check driver allocation, applicable work/rest arrangements, vehicle suitability and loading/access conditions. Provide a clear escalation route and retain evidence proportionate to the operation.
Review your SMS
Test actual performance using incidents, inspections, complaints, audit findings and corrective actions—not only policy completion.
Source and scope
Read the official 2026 Master Code and registered Code PDF. This independent CoR Australia guidance illustrates controls and evidence to consider; it is not the regulator’s publication, an exhaustive checklist, legal advice or a compliance certificate. Select controls for your circumstances so far as is reasonably practicable. The HVNL operates in participating jurisdictions, not Western Australia or the Northern Territory.
